Becoming Politically Engaged

Where do you start?

There are many online resources for helping you to become more politically active. Here are two websites that can get you started if you wish to contact your federal legislators online or by calling.

Posting messages online

The political website Countable helps you to contact your representatives easily. It offers:

  • Explanations about current bills going through Congress
  • Allows you to view opinions held by others
  • Provides a way for you to post email messages to your federal legislators based on your location

You can even post video messages!

Calling lawmakers made simple

Many people are content to send emails and/or make comments on their legislators’ Facebook pages and Twitter feeds. However, it’s become clear that what many legislators really pay attention to these days is phone calls.

Not sure what to say or which topics are most important when you call? Here’s where the website 5 Calls can really help. Go to the website or handy app and put in your location.

You’ll find a list of all the current topics in Washington DC.  There are phone numbers for your congressmen/women and sample scripts for each topic to give you an idea about how to express your opinions when you call . Of course, the whole point of becoming politically active is to develop your own opinions.

Get busy!

With these great options, contacting your lawmakers in Washington, DC has never been easier. The Humanists of North Central Florida encourage political awareness.
